A woman puts baby oil on her daughters hair on a daily basis.Oil is a lubricant not a moisturizer.Am I right?

I've told her that this is not healthy for her daughters hair, that it dries her hair out, but she tells me that it is because her daughters hair is so dry that that is why she puts oil in her hair. The 8-year old little girl is half-Filipino half-Caucasian, if that makes a difference on her hair texture. Please advise as to who is right? Any and all responses are totally appreciated! Thank you.A woman puts baby oil on her daughters hair on a daily basis.Oil is a lubricant not a moisturizer.Am I right?
I used to use that on my hair a few years ago. It didn't hurt it one bit...it was soft and shiny. Soooo I think you need to butt outA woman puts baby oil on her daughters hair on a daily basis.Oil is a lubricant not a moisturizer.Am I right?
Your right...it's not healthy and eventually the girls hair is going to fall out. She should use regular moisturizer to help her hair grow healthy.
hmmm...you are both right to a degree...oil does not moisturize the hair it actually prevents moisture from leaving...the oil molecules are too big to be absorbed by the hair strand so it hugs the hair and prevents moisture from leaving...MINERAL OIL %26amp; PETROLATUM: The best baby oil is made from almonds. But the oil which being sold as baby oil is 100% mineral oil. Mineral oil is a derivative of crude oil (petroleum) that is used industrially as a cutting fluid and lubricating oil. This commonly used petroleum ingredient coats the skin and hair just like plastic wrap. The skin's natural barrier is disrupted as this plastic coating inhibits its ability to breathe and absorb the Natural Moisture Factor (moisture and nutrition). The skin's ability to release toxins and wastes is impossible through this ';plastic wrap,'; which can promote acne and other disorders. It further hinders normal skin respiration/transpiration by keeping oxygen out. This process slows down skin function and normal cell development causing the skin to prematurely age. Holding in large a mounts of moisture in the skin can ';flood'; the biology and may result in immature, unhealthy, sensitive skin that dries out easily. Petrolatum - A petroleum-based grease that is used industrially as a grease component. Petrolatum exhibits many of the same potentially harmful properties as mineral oil.

Honestly, this stuff belongs in your engine, not on your hair. Regardless of ';Well, my Grandma used vaseline on her hair and it grew ';, the bottom line is this stuff is bad. It was bad for Grandma and it is bad for you. Period.

...so I think she is right for the fact that this is her child and she is tending to her childs hair as oppossed to neglecting it...it may not be the best product to use... an essential oil would be better but she is not putting liquid crack in her childs head so just chill...I also doubt she is packing it on her head enough to cause the effects mentioned in the above article but didn't want to misinform you so I choose to put th whole article in...
tell her that she should use glossing polish instead. If there is a sally's beauty supply near you they sell it there. It works wonders. I use it all the time on my hair becuz of all the heat styling i do to it. It will make her hair soft and shiny.
why does it matter?? shes not putting her daughter in harm.. so just let her be. Since yoiu have already spoke your mind just dont insist it because she doesnt want to hear it. get a life
Oil is extremely harmful to the hair. My hairstylist once scolded me for that. However there are products available from Wal Mart to Beauty Supply stores. There are products on the market for anti-frizz hair or just shine that work great. Secret weapon, works good and is about $6.00.
