Many people use vasline or baby oil as a lubricant, for insertions in the body, r these lubricants safe?

i went to the pharmacy coz i had a problem urinating, the pharmasist put some vaseline on the thing she had to insert in my penis(ugh it was disgustin), wont vaseline cause any problems? Many people use vasline or baby oil as a lubricant, for insertions in the body, r these lubricants safe?
It's a good regular lubricant but a poor sexual lubricant as it breaks down the latex in a condom.

Pharmacists don't ';insert'; anything...you would go to a doctor for that. Pharmacists dispense pharmaceuticals. (I know it's actually a little more complicated than that...pharmacists, please don't jump all over me...but in the context of this ';question'; that is sufficient.

No, vaseline won't cause problems as long as it's not loaded with germs. Seeing as it was a trained professional who treated you, it's unlikely to have been contaminated.

It's odd you should have been treated so by a pharmacist. In the U.S., that's outside the legal purvey of a pharmacist and only a physician can do that, or a licensed nurse working under the direction of a physician.

Anyway - as a nurse, if I had to catheterize you - that's what the procedure is called - I'd use sterile gloves, sterile lubricant (though not necessarily vaseline) and a sterile catheter. I'd also wash your penis thoroughly with an antiseptic before beginning the procedure - that way we know we aren't introducing any nasty little microscopic critters into your bladder.

I hope there was follow-up for you to determine why you were having problems with your urination...the cause should be treated as well as the symptom...
