Which one is higher in oil lubricants ? Flash or Fire point? Why?
Fire point - the temperature at which a petroleum product forms an air-vapor mixture above its surface which burns continuously when ignited by a small flame.
Flash point - the temperature at which vapors arising from a petroleum product will ignite momentarily on application of a flame.
The flash point is at a lower temperature for most (if not all) petroleum products because only enough vapor must be formed to momentarily flash, while the fire point requires a continuous amount of vapor formation.
